Too $hort's older brother was reportedly shot and killed during a robbery gone wrong in his hometown.

According to a report the East Bay Times published on Wednesday, January 29, the Oakland rapper's eldest sibling Wayne Shaw was struck with multiple bullets during an attempted robbery at an alleged marijuana grow house in East Oakland. The incident began at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning after the thieves crashed a truck into the building. Shaw, who was in the building at the time, was shot after he walked outside. He was rushed to a local hospital nearby where he passed away several hours later. He was 61.

Shaw was reportedly running the cannabis operation and slept at the building prior to the robbery. The suspects reportedly got away in a vehicle. A white Honda Civic was discovered in the middle of the street around the corner from the crime scene. Police linked the car to the crime especially after the owner claimed his car was stolen the night before. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities are actively searching for multiple suspects. Police are still investigating the incident.

As of press time, Too $hort has not publicly commented on his brother's death. The "Burn Rubber" rapper was born in Los Angeles but moved to Oakland with his family in the 1980s. He went to Fremont High School, which is where he was honored with a street named after him in 2022.

Rest in peace, Wayne Shaw. Find out more about the incident below.
