The Tampa Bay Lightning (37-21-4) defeated the buffalo Sabres (24-31-6) 6-5 on Thursday night at Amalie Arena. It was second straight win, and Tampa Bay has now won two in a row and ten of their last eleven.
Jake Guentzel had a hat trick to lead Tampa Bay - his first goal tied the game 3-3 early in the second period. After the Lightning fell behind 5-3, Guentzel scored two more goals in the second to tie the game 5-5 going into the third period.
Oliver Bjorkstrand, playing in his first game since being acquired along with Yanni Gourde from Seattle on Wedensday, broke the tie with a goal in the third period that would make the game 6-5. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves in net (on 33 shots faced).
The Lightning return to action when they host the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon. Puck drop Saturday is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Amalie Arena on Saturday.
