Eminem's publisher has dropped its case against a car dealership that allegedly used the Detroit native's hit song in their social media ads.
Eight Mile Style, the music publishing company that handles the rights to Em's compositions, filed a lawsuit against LaFontaine Ford St. Clair nearly three months ago after they claimed the dealership used the rapper's smash hit "Lose Yourself" for their TikTok ads. In the videos, Eminem's 2002 hit played in the background while potential customers were told they "only got one shot" to buy a special edition Ford truck. Now, according to a report Billboard published on Tuesday, April 22, EMS is voluntarily rescinding the lawsuit.
βThe composition, βLose Yourself,β was wrongfully used without a license,β attorney Howard Hertz wrote. βThe parties have resolved the matter and the video containing the musical composition at issue in the action has been removed from all platforms on which it was posted.β
Eight Mile Style filed the lawsuit against LaFontaine Ford back in January. The company alleged the car dealership used "Lose Yourself" in videos they posted to Facebook, Instagram and TikTok without obtaining a license. The visual ads were created to promote a Detroit Lions-themed Ford PowerBoost Hybrid F-150.
βWith only 800 produced, you only get one shot to own a Special Edition Detroit Lions 2024 PowerBoost Hybrid F-150," the ads said.
Eminem doesn't own the music publishing company and wasn't personally involved in the lawsuit. The terms of the reported settlement weren't revealed in the court documents.
