South Floridians are opening their hearts and wallets to help Hurricane Melissa victims.
"We just feel a kinship with our Caribbean islands," says United Way Broward CEO and President Kathleen Cannon.
While they will collect items in the near future, but now, money donations are key because, "there is a United Way in Jamaica. We have a contact with what is called Food for the Poor. We have other like-minded non-profits there that are doing work."

South Florida based Food for the Poor and Global Empowerment Mission have been preparing disaster kits for days.
Broward is launching a countywide relief effort with essential supply drop-off locations.
